When I’m Cleaning Windows

Cleaning windows has to be one of our least favourite jobs. Do it wrong and you can end up with streaky glass that makes you wonder why you bothered in the first place! The good news is you should only need to wash your windows twice a year if you do it right.

Washing-up liquid in warm water is perfect for getting that initial layer of dirt off but make sure there aren’t too many suds. If you’re using a strong window cleaner instead make sure if won’t damage any paintwork.

Start at the top and work your way down the pane with a clean squeegee, drying it off with a cloth as you go. This will remove excess water from the window. Use another cloth to remove and remaining water and dry the windowsill. If you wash your windows on a cloudy day you’ll reduce the risk of streaks – any direct sunlight will dry them too quickly and cause streaking.

Finally, and stay with us here, buff the now clean and dry glass with crumpled newspaper. Something in the printer ink makes them sparkle, we promise!
