How Often Should You Clean?

Gone are the days when women would stay at home every day keeping the abode clean and tidy while their husband would go out into the world of work. Now, with everybody’s lives becoming more hectic by the day, keeping up with the daily chores can leave you less than house-proud. However, did you know that you don’t have to clean everything every day to keep your house spick and span?

Follow this easy cleaning guide so that you know you’re not spending more time on cleaning certain things that you don’t have to!

Every 2 days – 1 week:

  • Dusting – Dust builds up quickly, and although we can try to put it off, it is something that should be done weekly.
  • Laundry – This depends how many people live in your house, but usually once a week is ample.
  • Vacuum – Small bits of dirt are brought into your home on a daily basis from your shoes, so your carpet and floors should be vacuumed on a weekly basis.
  • Sinks – Sinks are used many times a day, and by the end of the week unpleasant toothpaste marks can build up.
  • Toilets – As one of the least pleasant jobs, it makes sense to do this weekly so that it doesn’t get out of hand. Little and often is better than one big stinky job at the end of the month…

Every week – 1 month:

  • Shower/Bathtub – Preventing mildew from growing is the most important reason for cleaning this every 2-3 weeks.
  • Windows – Streaks and bad weather are the bane of cleaning windows, but rotating weeks for cleaning them will make a huge difference to your environment, allowing the sunlight to stream in and brighten your home.

Only every 1 – 6 months:

  • Upholstery – Every so often doing this yourself is a good idea, but it is recommended that every 6-12 you get your upholstery professionally cleaned for both hygienic reasons and appearances. This will vary however depending on use and if you have pets.
  • Steam Clean Carpet – Hidden dirt and bacteria builds up in your carpet and the most hygienic way to rid your home of this is with a steamer. It is not expensive to rent a steamer, and it is worth it particularly if you are prone to allergies.
  • Duvet and Blankets – Although we regularly wash our sheets, our duvet doesn’t often get cleaned. Every now and again wouldn’t go amiss thoug
